Meet the Camp MOE Directors

Katherine Marchand-Beyer, Camp Director

“I can’t imagine a summer without camp. It’s a constant adventure, an outdoor classroom where our incredible campers and staff are my teachers. I love dressing up and acting weird, which I’m told I do well. It is my privilege and honor to be there for the entire Camp MOE family.”

Katherine’s experience, knowledge, kindness and determination have created a caring, engaging culture that empowers campers and staff. When not at camp, Katherine loves being with her family, chasing her grandson, and if you can imagine her sitting down, she loves reading and knitting.

Krista Beyer, Assistant Camp Director

“There’s no other place in the world where I can be myself, act silly, have fun and learn every single day from my colleagues and our amazing campers. To put it simply, Camp MOE is my second home.”

Krista shares the essence of Camp MOE on social media on a daily basis. When she’s not behind the camera, she’s organizing electives, staffing events and anything else Katherine has up her sleeve. In her ‘free time’ Krista is a 5th grade teacher at the University of Hartford Magnet School and was neamed the 2017-2018 CREC Teacher of the Year. Krista is a ‘busy bee’ running, hiking, travelling and enjoying the great outdoors! Above all, Krista cherishes her time with family and friends.

Kim Aechliman, Program and Staff Development Director

“There’s nothing better than seeing a camper coming off the bus on the first day with their arms stretched out ready to hug an old friend, or a camper hesitantly trying something for the first time and then wanting to do it over and over again. These special moments form the glue that connects all of our hearts to Camp MOE.”

Kim’s ability to problem solve, organize and create magic ensures that every day is exciting at Camp MOE. She’s is always on the hunt for a new Wacky Wednesday so she has an excuse to shop for a crazy outfit! When Kim’s not at camp, she loves traveling, reading and spending time with friends.

Andrew Deacon, Office Manager and Literacy Coordinator

“Camp MOE has become my family. I love being part of such a sensational team and enjoy working with the staff to create fun and powerful experiences for each child. The smiles on our campers' faces makes every day worth it!”

Andrew is our registrar, finance guy and chief communicator with families. He began TREES, ‘Terrific Readers Emerge Everyday in the Summer’ which is a literacy program for our campers. Andrew is a numeracy and literacy coach for the Torrington Board of Education and was named the 2017 Torrington Teacher of the Year.
